Who uses a luggage rack? I've never seen anything stowed on one..ever. Besides 70 sonething year old men don't leave home. They have too many doctors appointments to ever go anywhere for more than 3 days.

I think they were mostly installed as fashion accessories. On a little sports car without much trunk space, like an MG B or an Austin-Healey Sprite, they do serve a useful purpose. On a mid-size Cadillac sedan, not so much.
